Day off

We took today off from being tourists.  Since we landed in Sydney five days ago, we’ve been going, non stop.  It was time we forced a bit of relaxation.  Tell me we aren’t the only people who need a vacation from their vacation?  Today though, it was nice to know that we had nothing on the agenda and didn’t have to do anything.

We slept in (7:30, woo hoo!) had some coffee and breakfast on the patio and then went for a walk on the beach.  We met a little dog and it’s owner and he totally made us miss our dog.  :(

After we rehydrated (it was about 90 degrees at 9 am), we spent the rest of morning lazing about at the pool.  It’s an  infinity pool that overlooks the ocean and on a couple of occasions, I wished I had a floatie.  But, the sun is so beyond brutal here, you can’t spend more than half an hour or so in the direct sunlight without feeling the burn, so it was a game of musical chairs most of the morning.

We came back up to the flat around lunch time, had something to eat and then showered up.  Oh, and I may or may not have taken one of Tim’s ear medicine things and had a quick nap on the lanai.

Once I woke up we were ready to go, we hopped in the Pig and went to Palm Cove for a few cold ones.  Palm Cove is about three miles from Trinity Beach and it’s a quaint beach community, catering mostly to tourists.  We found a great little local bar and it turns out, the owners are going on a five-year holiday around the world.  They’ve custom-built a traveling truck and plan on shipping it all over the place.  They leave for 9 months in Africa in January.  I’ll try to find the story and post it.  It’s pretty cool.

Tomorrow we’re off to Kuranda for some sight-seeing and a railway ride.  Everyone says it’s gorgeous, so we’re going to roll the dice and try it out.

We leave for Brisbane on Thursday and we’re both excited to continue our adventure.

Well, I finally read the blog. I guess I just was checking it at the wrong time and being the computer genius that I am…..well, you know.
It sucks that the Aussies hate Americans. Can’t understand why, since most Americans are so nice and well mannered and not demanding or rude. HMMMMMM?
Maybe New Zealand will be better.
It sounds like a gorgeous place. But I am with you on the disgusting sea cucumber and the giant bugs. Yucky. There was a reason that England sent the criminals there and I guess now you are seeing it.
Your blog is hysterical and I love it. Sounds like you guys are having a great time. You may need liver transplants by the time you get home tho.
Miss you more than I can say and love you more than that. Keep safe and stop trying to scare me. I’m a nervous wreck as it is with you so far away. How did you get to be so brave?
Tell Tim we love him too.
    Talk soon.
